This new book by Pamela Berthume (co-creator of HOMESCHOOLOPOLY) offers a very unique and realistic view of homeschooling and frankly of life in general. Practically every family has had more then what seems to be their "fair share"of trials and tribulations.
Join Pamela, a homeschooling mom to four children, one grown and three still at home and take a journey with Pamela as she shares:
-
26 moves in 22 years of marriage
-
Homeschooled in 5 different states, 10 different homes
-
Pamela has dealt with many health issues... Too many to list! Some of which are Multiple Sclerosis, Fibromyalgia, Spinal Arthritis (due to old scoliosis surgery - rod shifts), 2 incomplete spinal cord injuries (one in thoracic and one in cervical spine), multiple digestive disorders, Celiac Disease (an autoimmune disease), a cancer scare which resulted in full hysterectomy, and more.
-
Her oldest son left the "nest" to attend college full-time in 2003 at 17 years old (he graduated homeschool high school at age 16. ). He also recently married - so she experienced her first child’s wedding.
-
They have struggled financially on and off for years as her husband has remained committed to being a work from home Dad to spend more time with the family. They have truly learned to live and walk by "faith"as they have now been self-employed for some time and fully recognize that every dollar comes from God!
-
Their daughter’s transition from homeschool, to a very brief stint in a public middle school (more about that experience later in the book!), to a wonderful private Christian school where God willing (and providing) she will remain for her high school years.
-
And more...
Pamela's book, with a foreword written by Lorrie Flem of TEACH Magazine, is a must read. Both engaging and rare in format as Pamela's original book, which was written in 1999 and entitled Homeschooling, The Good, The Bad... and The Ugly!!!", has been left completely intact and untouched within these pages. In 2007 new insights, updates and stories from her ongoing journey over the years were added throughout the book in a different font. This provides the unique perspective of joining the Berthumes on their journey and seeing first hand how their homeschool and lives have grown over the years. Although her perspectives have changed on some issues, they have remained steadfast on others.
Here is one of the many testimonials written about her original book:
"This is the most honest, insightful, and inspiring book about homeschooling that I've read. Pamela shares so much of herself and her family with the reader, that you feel as if you are having a conversation with a friend. This book will be reread by me many times." - Lisa D. Reid, Home Educator, SC
You can currently get this book as a free eBook with the purchase of HOMESCHOOLOPOLY. The book will be available in print format in April 2007.
